The region has a sound and growing economic base, with the economy centred on government and tertiary services in Canberra, and in rural industries, tourism, technology and manufacturing in the remainder of the region.

The region's excellent health and education facilities, and boundless recreation opportunities, have encouraged many businesses to expand or relocate to the region.
